Blackfeet Tales of Glacier National Park 1st Ed.
For your consideration is a First Edition of "Blackfeet Tales of Glacier National Park" by James Willard Schultz. Copyright date; 1916, Houghton Mifflin, Boston and New York, illustrated. The stories run the gamut from tribal history to legend and myth. Most sound as if they are embellished stories of real events. Schultz (1859-1947), was an American writer, explorer, Glacier National Park guide, fur trader and historian of the Blackfeet Indians. He came out West as a young man in the late 1800s and lived among the Blackfeet for many years. Speaking their language and using sign language, he absorbed hundreds of stories about the tribe, its history and oral tradition. Eventually Schultz wrote numerous books about his western experiences. When he died in 1947, the Blackfeet tribe buried him near Two Medicine River, not far from Glacier National Park. This grey cloth bound stamped hardcover is in nice condition, slight scuffing observed to edges. Intact pages exhibit age tanning. Measures 8.25"L x 5.75"W x 1.25"D, weight 1lb 2oz.*
