This is an excellent stone headed skull cracker war club with outstanding beaded finish and is from the Blackfeet (Blackfoot) Native American Indians and dating to the 19th Century. This 1800’s war club shows a wood haft which is covered in an Indian tanned hide and adorned with all period correct 19th Century glass trade seed beadwork in a linear geometric pattern. The end of the club shows a round stone which is attached to the haft and covered in Indian tanned hide and is also adorned in period correct glass trade seed beadwork from the 1800’s. The end of the haft has an Indian tanned wrist throng with yellow ocher mineral dyed finish. The haft shows six sections of hand cut Indian tanned hide long fringe. The piece shows slight bead loss and the stone head’s attachment is slightly torn. Provenance: From a large American Indian collection in Great Falls, Montana. The club is very similar to the Sioux example from the Sundog collection sold by our company in our November 2018 sale. Measures overall 36”L with the head being 2.75” in diameter.
