Black Powder Colt Single Action Army Revolver

Manufactured in 1874 as an Ainsworth Inspected Cavalry Model SAA and subsequently replated. The top of the barrel is marked with the one-line address, the matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap, with the partial serial number "2469" on the bottom of the barrel under the ejector housing. Patent dates are absent from the frame. Kopec in "A Study of the Colt Single Action Army Revolver" p. 323 notes of known examples where frame markings were factory omitted. The loading gate has the assembly number "834". Blade front and frame notch rear sights, oval ejector rod head, nickel finish with niter blue hammer and trigger, and fitted with a smooth one-piece ivory grip.

Fair as period replated with 85% heavily buffed nickel finish remaining, showing some minor pitting under the finish. Strong niter blue remains on the hammer. The grips are good as undersized showing numerous age cracks and a small chip on each toe. The barrel marking is clear. The action is fine.
