Black Powder Colt Single Action Army Revolver with Factory Letter

Manufactured in 1883. The top of the barrel is stamped with the one line Hartford address and the left side of the frame has the three line, three patent date marking. The left side upper front of the trigger guard is stamped "45 CAL". The matching serial number is stamped on the frame, trigger guard and back strap with the cylinder and barrel having a matching partial serial number (6851). Standard blade front and frame notch rear sights, and fitted with a smooth one-piece walnut grip. The accompanying Colt factory letter verifies the caliber and finish with the barrel length and grips as "Not Listed" and that it was shipped as 1 of 15 to Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett & Company in Chicago, Illinois on August 24, 1883. The remarks in the letter state that a 7 1/2 inch barrel and rubber grips were standard for the time period.

Very good. The revolver retains thinning original blue finish on the upper edge of the ejector housing and in the protected areas on the trigger guard. The revolver has been cleaned some time ago and the metal has a smooth gray. The grip has been revarnished and remains good with some chips and wear on the lower edges, and overall scattered minor dings and dents. The markings are clear. The action is excellent.
