Manufactured in 1887. The top of the barrel is marked with the two line address, the left side of the frame is marked with the three line, three patent dates and the left upper front of the trigger guard is marked "44 CAL". Matching serial number on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap. Standard blade front and frame notch rear sights and fitted with two piece checkered hard rubber Rampant Colt/American eagle relief grips. The accompanying factory letter verifies the serial number, 44-40 caliber, 4 3/4" barrel, nickel finish, rubber grips and that it was shipped as 1 of 10 to J.F. Schmelzer & Kansas Sons Kansas City, on February 21, 1887.
BBL: 4 3/4 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 44-40
Finish: blue/casehardened
Grips: hard rubber
Serial Number: 110297
Condition: Good. The revolver retains 20% original nickel finish. The majority of the finish remains on the upper and lower protected area of the ejector housing, on the trigger guard, and cylinder. A strong amount of finish remains on the front strap with some on the breech end of the barrel. The balance has a smooth mottled grayish patina with some flash pitting on the frame and cylinder. There are a number of tool marks on each side of the rear of the frame. The grips are fair with heavy wear (more so on the right panel), with areas worn smooth. The markings are readable. The action is excellent.
