Black Powder Colt London Agency Single Action Army Revolver with Attachable Skeleton Stock and Factory Letter

Colt London Agency Single Action Army revolver with attachable stock and Colt factory letter. The letter describes the revolver as a Colt Single Action Army in caliber .45 Eley with 5 1/2 inch barrel, blue finish and states that it was shipped to Colt's London Agency on January 27, 1880. The barrel, cylinder, trigger guard and back strap is blue. The frame, loading gate and hammer are casehardened. The one piece walnut grip has a varnish finish. The attachable stock is nickel plated. The frame has the special extended hammer screws to engage the lugs on the stock. The ejector rod has the early, bull's-eye, head and the hammer has bordered knurling on the spur. The top of the barrel is roll stamped "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. Co. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A. DEPOT 14 PALL MALL LONDON". The left side of the frame is roll stamped with the Colt three dates, three line patent markings. "45 CAL/B" is stamped on the left shoulder of the trigger guard. The assembly number, "5316" is stamped on the inside of the loading gate. Small London, "Crown/V" and "Crown/GP" inspection and proofmarks are stamped on the underside of the barrel and on each cylinder chamber. The full serial number, "46956" is stamped on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap. The partial serial number "6956" is stamped on the side of the cylinder. The attachable stock has no markings.

Very good. The revolver retains traces of the original blue and casehardened finish in protected areas. The balance is a smooth gray brown patina. The London Agency markings on the barrel are light due to light sanding. All of the other markings are deep and crisp. The grip is fine and retains 80% of the original varnish finish. The attachable skeleton stock is very good and has at least 80% of the nickel plated finish intact with finish wear concentrated on the butt and the yoke. The revolver action is crisp and functions perfectly. This is a good example of a rare Colt London Agency Single Action Army revolver with a 20th century attachable skeleton carbine stock.
