Bill Ward - Original Torchy Illustration (undat
Bill Ward - Original Torchy Illustration (undated). Bill Ward has always been known for drawing the biggest, bustiest, most bodacious babes to strut across a comic book or cartoon panel. This piece is a watercolor of one of his most famous creations, Torchy. Bill Ward remembers, "I think it was around 1946 that Busy Arnold, Quality's publisher asked me if I could do another story for Modern Comics and did I have any ideas? I mentioned the fact that I had drawn a strip about a daffy blonde in the Army called 'Torchy.' He went for the idea, and I convinced him to let me ink it. At long last Torchy was in the comics. The strip was very popular, running in both Modern Comics and Doll Man for about 3 years. They were getting so much mail on it that Busy decided to do a Torchy book. I was ecstatic, my creation, that daffy blonde chick, was going to have a book of her own..." Torchy, posing in her two-piece bathing suit, can barely contain herself. Ward's art is popular and hotly collected, so don't let this Torchy pass you by. This piece is signed by the artist in the lower left, and to the right he has added, "Bill Ward Torchy 1946-52". The overall size of the art paper measures 13.75" x 11.5". Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are always considered first over tie eBay live bids. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
