ALS in pencil, signed “Bill,” three pages on two sheets, 5 x 8, postmarked December 15, 1949. Letter from prison to Marion Anderson and his protege Arthur Bratto, in part: "Here goes my next to last letter & it is as usual without news. I see the…tournament in January at Griffith Park which will give Bratto a good chance to get a crack at some of the better players…I am ok & getting awfully keen to see you Sunday but can stick it out without too much suffering I hope. Actually I am not having too hard a time, but it's so cold I can't get any fun out of exercise. The wind is high & cold…I'm delighted to know you are playing so well, you'll need to be at your…best on Sunday I assure you." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in his own hand and signed again in the return field, "W. T. Tilden."
