William Lemuel Boyd (1910-1977) was born in Dallas, Texas. He performed with a group called The Cowboys Ramblers from 1934 to 1951, recording over 200 songs. Their hits included "Under the Double Eagle", "Fan It", "Wah Hoo" and "New Steel Guitar Rag". The band also had their own popular radio show, "The Bill Boyd Ranch House. In 1942 he appeared in six western films Along the Sundown Trail, Prairie Pals, Tumbleweed Trail, Rolling Down the Great Divide, Raiders of the West and Texas Man Hunt. Boyd has his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Radio: Records: Western Picture Star. On reverse are lyrics to "I Wonder Why Daddy Don't Write", written by Boyd and Bill Nettles (1907-1967).
