Rare grouping of items relating to the commissioning of the USS Harry S. Truman (CVN–75) on July 25, 1998, at the Naval Station in Norfolk, Virginia, deriving from the personal collection of Drucie Snyder Horton, the daughter of former US Treasury Secretary John Snyder, who was Truman's close friend and World War I comrade. The items include: a handsome engraved leather-bound photograph album, 17.5 x 13.5, consisting of over 60 color photos commemorating the event, which is highlighted by a color satin-finish 8 x 10 photo of President Clinton during his speech, signed by Clinton at the ceremony in silver ink, and a black ballpoint signature of then Secretary of the Navy John Howard Dalton, who has signed the inside front cover of the album; a honorary plaque made of wood from the plank of the USS Truman, 11 x 8.5, bearing an engraved dedication for "Mrs. Drucie Snyder Horton, Matron of Honor"; a VHS tape documenting the event; a trio of TLSs from Secretary of Defense William Cohen, Naval Operations Admiral Jay Johnson, and Naval Commanding Officer Thomas Otterbein; a typescript written by Drucie’s husband John Horton, detailing the day of the ceremony; and an invitation, parking pass, and guest pass for the event. In overall fine condition.
