TLS as president, one page, 6.75 x 8.75, White House letterhead, November 19, 1997. Letter to autograph seeker Odes K. Goodsell, in full: "Thanks for the gift, but I can't accept it. I'm glad you won the bet, though! Please feel free to send the photograph of the two of us here to the White House, attention Nancy Hernreich. I'll be more than happy to sign it for you. Thank you for your support—it means a lot to me." Clinton adds a handwritten postscript: "Thanks—contribute the bet to a worthy charity for me!" Includes the original 20 dollar bill that Goodsell sent to the president, as well as a copy of Clinton's response with a handwritten note from the recipient in the upper left corner: "This is a copy of the twenty I gave Bill Clinton that you gave me on our bet and a copy of his letter to me. Had a lot of fun out of this." In fine condition, with two light paperclip impressions to the top edge. Accompanied by a transmittal letter from the White House to Goodsell from an earlier date, March 3, 1993, notifying him that the White House is forced to refuse autograph requests, and the original White House mailing envelope for the transmittal letter.
