These items were in the collection of the noted lawman George Carroll, Sheriff of Laramie County, Wyoming and U.S. Marshal:
a) A very rare and important Reward Poster for Carlisle for his escape from prison: “$1,000 REWARD - W.H. Brine, Acting Warden, Wyoming State Penitentiary, Rawlins, Wyoming.” 11” x 8 1/2”;
b) Iver Johnson .32 caliber break top revolver confiscated from Carlisle upon his capture in 1919 after the Union Pacific Passenger Train robbery near Rock Springs, Wyoming;
c) A great photo of Carlisle and Carroll signed by both, circa 1955, states, “I followed the Carlisle case closely and was in Cheyenne when they brought Bill in. I was sorry that he got shot, because I don’t think Bill ever had any real meanness in his heart”;
d) Copy of “Bill Carlisle – Lone Bandit – An Autobiography” signed and inscribed to Geo. Carroll, Cheyenne, Wyo. 1st edition 1946;
e) Original telegram of the robbery, to “All Eastbound Trains” Nov. 19, 1919: “No 19 held up by Lone Bandit near Medicine Bow, Supposed to be Carlisle .... – Keep a close lookout throughout your trains. Special Agents at various points” ;
f) Also included is a pistol-shaped candy container similar to the one used by Bill during his career, numerous newspaper articles, and photos signed by Carlisle. (not shown).
