Bill Anders 1968 Christmas Letter, Signed Covers
Bill Anders 1968 Christmas Letter and Signed Cover Archive. Bill Anders was selected by NASA in the third group of astronauts in 1963. His only space mission was an important one as he was Lunar Module pilot for the Apollo 8 flight that orbited the moon, an important step toward a moon landing. This lot has several interesting items. First is the printed Christmas newsletter sent by his wife Valerie in 1968. It was mailed on the day of the launch of Apollo 8, December 21, and the cacheted launch cover of transmittal is included, signed by Anders on the front. Also included are four Apollo Eight (Scott #1371) First Day Covers- all signed by Anders, one with an inscription "To Nig Coons". ("Nig" was an affectionate nickname for Dr. Coons.) The last two items: a signed cacheted launch cover for Apollo 13 and a signed launch postcard for Apollo 14 (with a note from wife Valerie on the verso). Had Anders stayed in the astronaut program, he would have flown to the moon on one of these two missions. A total of eight items, seven of which are autographed by this reluctant signer. From the estate of Dr. D. Owen Coons, Chief of NASA's Manned Spacecraft Center Medical Office.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
