Bijou Funnies #1 First Printing (Print Mint, 1968) Condition: FN+. San Francisco wasn't the only hot spot in the early days of Underground Comix; this wild effort was the brainchild of two Chicago cartoonists, Jay Lynch and Skip Williamson. Jay and Skip had worked together for a number of years, both of them being regular contributors to Harvey Kurtzman's Help!, and then on their own hippy magazine, the Chicago Mirror. Joining them in their first UG comic book was visiting pal Robert Crumb, who would wind up contributing to every issue, plus Gilbert Shelton, Jay Kinney, and others. This first printing copy is on white paper, with a glossy cover that overlaps the interior pages. It's always been one of the toughest UGs to find in any condition, let alone a pretty copy such as this. Fogel's Underground Comix Price Guide FN 6.0 value = $600.
