Unsigned, and possibly unpublished, handwritten lyrics for ‘Love Locked Out,’ on a 3.75 x 7 off-white lined sheet of notebook paper, taken from the Bopper’s notebook which was found in his briefcase at the site of his plane crash. The Bopper writes 20 lines of lyrics, beginning “Love Locked Out, In the cold and rain, Love Locked Out, May never come again. I know that you loved once, and you got hurt bad, But don’t let that stop you from trying again.” Accompanied by a framed (without glass) 2001 letter of provenance from J. P. Richardson, Jr. attesting to the lyrics, stating the sheet was in fact recovered from the wreckage of the plane crash that took his father’s life. In fine condition. The ‘Big Bopper’ is scarce in any form, particularly in this length.
