Covers decoratively panelled in gilt with central oval red morocco onlay decoratively tooled in gilt with the letters "JHS" in the center, spine elaborately tooled in gilt in seven compartments with six raised bands, board edges and turn-ins decoratively tooled in gilt, marbled endpapers. Unfortunately, the joints are cracked and the boards are detached. Some foxing, browning, and occasional staining. A few short tears. Early ink and pencil ownership inscriptions on front free endpaper and flyleaf. Early ink annotations on the verso of the plate at Kkkk4, being a history of the Ash family, beginning with Caleb Ash (1744-1797), son of Joshua and Alice Ash.
