Best quality and deluxe London Bowie knife by Morton of large size and elaborate decoration. The knife measures 17 ½” overall with 11 ¾” thick stock blade showing semi-spear point. The blade is finely etched in scrolls on both sides and extending 3/4 of the way down to the tip of the blade. The knife shows ivory scales grips that are nicely scrimshawed with an armoral coat of arms and Latin motto. The cross guard is cast silver and has been nicely engraved to match the outside edge between the grip scales. The original silver plated scabbard is retained with the exact same family crest finely engraved on the back of the scabbard throat. The blade is in very good plus to near fine condition showing just some minor erosion and pinprick pitting but most of its original polish and its original full dimensions with no evidence of sharpening. The grips scales are very good plus with a couple of cracks and small losses. The scabbard is also very good plus with some minor cracking and normal aging. The crest is ornate and should be researchable to a noble family. Est.: $20,000 -$40,000.
