Best Quality Purdey & Sons Side-by-Side Shotgun, #20681, 12 ga., 30'' game rib barrels choked IC/IC , case hardened banknote and rosette engraved frame and sideplates, finely checkered English straight-grip walnut stock with splinter forend, and later added brown rubber butt pad. Top of barrel marked ''J. Purdey & Sons, Audley House, South Audley Street, London'', and ''Made of Sir Joseph Whitworth's Fluid Pressed Steel''. Steel front bead, double triggers, manual safety with ejectors, cocking indicators, and ovoid plaque at bottom of stock. Shotgun is engraved on lever and at breech portion of rib, as well as the forend tip in gold, with the No. 2, indicating that this is No. 2 of a two-gun set. (The whereabouts of the other shotgun are currently unknown.) Mfg'd 1911, with only 253 produced that year. Condition is excellent. Barrels retain approx. 98% of a fine English blue showing only light micro-scratching and thinning along the high edges of rib. Approx. 85%-90% of the original case colors are retained, with thinning at high edges and balance point. Shotgun shows minor evidence of professional re-blackening to both barrels and triggerguard. Stock and checkering have been refreshened somewhat, with small fissure emanating from rear checkered diamond approx. 2'' behind upper tang. Action remains crisp, bores are mirror bright. Length of pull to end of wood: 13-3/16''; to end of pad 14-7/8''. Stock with very minor right-hand cast-off. Drop at heel 2-1/2''; drop at comb 1-5/8''. Est.: $12,000-$18,000. (C&R) (Ernest A.
