Football executive (1895–1959) who served as NFL commissioner from 1945 until his death. Five Philadelphia Eagles Pro Football Club payroll checks, 8.25 x 3, filled out in another hand and signed by Bell, “De Benneville Bell,” payable to different players for amounts ranging from $25 to $180, all dated 1939. The players, all of whom endorsed their check on the reverse, are Joe Bukant, Woody Dow, Elmer Kolberg, Allie White, and Clem Woltman. In overall fine condition, with various expected bank stamps and cancellation holes.
