Rosove 35.A1; Spence 123. Narrative of the British "Southern Cross" expedition led by C. E. Borchgrevink and sponsored by Sir George Newnes. It was the first expedition to establish a base on the main body of the continent, and the first party to winter over on the continent. Bernacchi, an Australian, was physicist on the expedition, and later a member of Scott's "Discovery" expedition. One of the scarcest of the primary accounts from the "Heroic Age". See colour illustration.
