Official 1936 Berlin Olympics torch, comprised of steel, measuring 10.5? in length and 6? at its widest point, manufactured by Krupp. Engraved on the handle with a map of the torch relay route, the Olympic emblem, and inscribed, "Fackel-Staffel, Lauf, Olympia-Berlin, 1936." The top of the torch is inscribed, "Organisations-Komitee fur die XI. Olympiade Berlin 1936, Als Dank Dem Trager." The underside of the torch platform is inscribed, "Stiftung Der Fried Krupp A. G. Essen, Krupp Nirosta V2A Stahl." Some mild scattered scratches to top platform and handle. The 1936 Summer Olympics torch relay was the first of its kind, transporting the Olympic flame from Olympia in Greece to the site of the Games in Berlin. Krupp produced a total of 3,840 torches, and 3,331 torchbearers participated in the relay. In total, it covered 3,187 km over twelve days. Representing the historically important 1936 Berlin Olympics as well as the establishment of the torch relay tradition, this is an iconic Olympic torch.
