Blade front and notch rear sights, with "611" on the left side of the barrel and "390" on the underside, matching the frame, "crown/ crown/ U" proofs on the barrel and frame, "PATENT/ BREVET/ S.G.D.G." on the left side of the frame near a crest of a man backed by radiance and holding a cross, marked "GAGGENAU/ V.C.S./ SUHL". Fitted with a checkered hammer and cocking knob, smooth straw finished trigger, flip safety and a pair of checkered hard rubber grips with "B" monograms and a lanyard ring. Produced contemporary to the Borchardt pistol the Model 1896 was a very early commercial semi-automatic, which integrated a 5-round en bloc magazine and a blowback driven mechanism.

Condition: Very fine, with 70% of the faded original blue finish, showing a mixed brown patina, bright edge wear, a small amount of pitting in the exposed areas and scattered mild handling marks. Grips are very good, with much wear, mild pressure dents and fine detail in the "B" stamps. Mechanically very good.
