The first United States Secretary of the Navy (1751-1813). ALS signed “Ben Stoddert,” one page, 8 x 9.75, January 17, 1801. Letter to Thomas Fisher. In part: “Judge Cooper offers me for some property here–his half of the tract of land called ‘the Properties Garden’–on Elk Forest–held by him in partnership with you…I want no land in Penna. I would only take this, to sell it immediately.” Second integral page bears a free-franked address panel. Intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature, several pencil notations, and light show-through from writing on reverse, otherwise fine condition.
