Benjamin Lincoln Signs a Document Running a Woman Out of Town! Document Signed ("Benjamin Lincoln, Jun."), as Selectman, 1 page, 7.5" by 8.5", Hingham, Massachusetts, July 8, 1766. Also signed by Selectmen Daniel Lincoln, Stephen Cushing and Benjamin Cushing; docketed by Obadiah Lincoln on verso. Stained at margins, worn at folds, but overall good; a pencil note in lower left corner does not effect text. In 1766, not yet the general, and far away from being the new nation's Secretary of War, Lincoln signed on to running a woman out of his home town. "You are hereby required forthwith to warn Ruth Perrey to Depart this town Within fourteen Days or give Security to the Select Men of Hingham to Indemnify that town from any Charge that May Ever Hereafter arise by her means." From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection.
