<B>Benjamin Harrison Typed Letter Signed</B></I> "<I>Benj Harrison</B></I>" as President-elect, one page, 8.5" x 5.5". Indianapolis, Indiana, November 16, 1888. To J.H. Tourjee, Esq., Norwich, Conn. In full, "<I>Your letter of Nov. 14th has been received. It is quite impossible for me to give any answer to your suggestion that I shall participate in a re-union to be held on the battle ground of Bull Run sometime 'during the coming Spring'. When we are nearer to the proposed event, I may be able to give a definite answer.</B></I>" In the Civil War, Harrison was Colonel of the 70th Indiana Volunteer Infantry Regiment, later breveted as a Brigadier General. Ten days before writing this letter, former Indiana Senator Benjamin Harrison defeated incumbent President Grover Cleveland in the presidential election. Cleveland had more popular votes, 5.5 million to 5.4 million, but Harrison won in electoral votes, 233-168. Minor wear at folds, partial split in lower fold in blank area, nicked at left edge.
