<Our item number 135782><B>Harrison, Benjamin.</B> Autograph letter signed &#40;&#34;Benj Harrison&#34;&#41; as Colonel, 70th Indiana, 1p, 9 x 7½ in., Bowling Green, Ky., 5 Nov. 1862. The future President writes to Adjutant General Laz Noble in Indianapolis regarding the resignations of the captain, a lieutenant &#40;who is under arrest&#41;, and the doctor &#40;&#34;I fear his constitution is so impaired by his old habits as to make him unfit for the service.&#34;&#41; Harrison notes &#34;We have had about 150 sick & have lost a good many men in the last 10 days. Measles & a malignant form of dysentery are the prevailing diseases. We are desirous of moving on with the &#39;Grand Army&#39; but have not yet received marching orders.&#34; Fine; the two lower corners are trimmed, affecting nothing.
