<B>Benjamin Harrison Autograph Letter Signed to Garfield's Attorney General</B></I> A.L.S. <I>"Benj Harrison"</B></I> on United States Senate Chamber letterhead, 1p., 7.75" x 9.75", <I>"Indianapolis"</B></I> he has crossed out the imprinted "Washington" , June 21, 1881, transmitting the resignation of a U.S. Marshall. He writes: <I>"…I have the honor to enclose the resignation of Col. W</B></I> illiam <I>. W. Dudley of the office of United States Marshal for the District of Indiana. I recommend the appointment of Genl. Robert S. Foster of Indianapolis, as his successor. This recommendation is supported by the entire Republican Delegates of the state I believe."</B></I> Nice association letter uniting three heroes of the Civil War. Foster served valiantly at Antietam with the 19th Indiana Volunteers and Foster served as a Captain in Lew Wallace's 11th Indiana Vounteer Infantry Regiment; and of course, Harrison served with the 70th Indiana Volunteers. Tipped to a larger page and in near fine condition.
