Handsome Benjamin Franklin Historical Staffordshire Polychrome Ceramic Imported for the 1876 Centennial
c. 1876 Centennial Era, Historical Staffordshire Polychrome Figure of Benjamin Franklin, England, Choice Near Mint.
This wonderful, highly colorful Staffordshire Figure of Benjamin Franklin stands 10” tall and is 3.5” at its base. Decorated in polychrome enamel, his coat is light violet, waistcoat is white with purple decorations, wearing green breeches with white stockings and black shoes. This specimen is similar in its style to an example listed as AI.22 on page 233 in Arman’s “Anglo-American Ceramics Part I”. This Benjamin Franklin ceramic figure holds a document in his right hand and his black tri-corner hat in his left arm. The base is plain white with a gold trim ring near bottom and is a vibrant harvest gold on its top portion which is most attractive for display. Scarce, and a most popular method of the period to incorporate this historic American Patriotic figure and founding father!
