Partly-printed vellum DS, signed “B. Franklin,” one page, 16 x 13.75, May 30, 1786. As president of Pennsylvania's Supreme Executive Council, Franklin issues a land grant to Matthias Keely “a Certain Tract of Land, called ‘Hopewell’ situate on the North West Side of the River Ohio, in the County of Westmoreland…containing Two hundred and seven acres and eighty Six perches.” Signed prominently on the left side by Benjamin Franklin, and countersigned below by James Trimble. The left side retains two of the original paper seals. In fine condition.
Accompanied by an engraved portrait bearing a facsimile signature. Franklin issued this document as president of the Supreme Executive Council of Pennsylvania, a position analogous to the modern position of governor.
