<B>Benito Mussolini and Victor Emanuel III Document Signed</B></I> "<I>mussolini</B></I>" and "<I>Victor Emanuel</B></I>". One page, partially printed document, 9.75" x 14.5", dated January 21, 1929, Rome. Victor Emmanuel (1869- 1947) was King of Italy (1900 - 1946), as well as Emperor of Ethiopia (1936 - 1943) and King of Albania (1939 - 1943). He won respect as wartime leader of Italy in the First World War. However, his reputation suffered when he allowed Benito Mussolini (1883-1945) and his Fascist regime to operate with impunity between 1922 and 1943. Victor Emmanuel III yielded most of his powers to his son, Umberto, in 1944 and finally abdicated in 1946. Victor Emmanuel took refuge in Egypt, dying in Alexandria in 1947. On April 28, 1945, Mussolini and his mistress were shot near Lake Como.
