Photograph shows a Spokane & Inland flatcar load of Reno Brick and Lumber Company lumber with eight men perched on top. Image measures 6-3/4 x 4-3/4” with overall size with single black matte 10 x 8”. Focus and contrast are good. Markings on the railcar are readable. There is minor damage to lower left corner. There are ink check marks above the heads of two men on right side of car. The image is slightly faded at the edges. No photographer noted. Inscription on image notes “First Carload Shipment Loaded Out of Bend, Ore., Nov. 6th, 1911, S&R 422” [sic]. Handwritten notes on reverse read “Left check – Scottie (Mabel’s husband) William Earl Scott”; “Right check – Helmuth (Mother’s bro.) Goodman”, “Helmuth – son of America Chumbley Goodman and Edwin McMasters Goodman – Helmuth was a twin. His brother was Homer. ‘Scottie’ was the husband of Mabel Goodman Scott (Cara’s sister). Signed – Edythe Goodman Wise.” The Spokane & Inland Railroad was incorporated in Washington, in 1906.
