Ben Oyne is well-known as a photographer and commercial director, whose works are often presented as humoristic testimonies of everyday life; his photographs fetch up to 1,000 euros at international auctions

The present print is a characteristic work by Ben Oyne and depicts a rather inconvenient retired couple in its kitchen. Oyne’s picture stories usually tell the ‘human comedy’, whose humoristic sides are thoughtfully presented with creative tricks.



The photograph reveals the studio stamp of the artist on the verso ‘BEN OYNE STUDIO […] Hamburg 6’. The photo paper is slightly wavy and shows a faint trace of dirt outside the image upper right. The image size is 12 x 14 cm and the overall dimensions of the work are 12.9 x 17.8 cm.



Ben Oyne (b. 1938)

The Swedish photographer Ben Oyne studied art and design in Gothenburg and Zurich, between 1958 and 1962. He then worked as an art director for a number of agencies, including Young & Rubicam in New York. Since the mid-1970s Oyne works as a freelance photographer in the field of editorial and advertising photography. His works have been presented in solo-exhibitions in Sweden, Germany, Italy and France, in which the artist continuously focused on his ‘recreated realities’. Since the mid-1980s, Oyne is also active as a director of commercials. He is a member of the ‘Bund freischaffender Fotografen (BFF)’ and a honorary member of the German Designer Club. Ben Oyne now lives and works in Paris and on the Côte d'Or Burgundy. (cbo)
