Ben Butler: A Very Rare, Large 3.5" x 4.75" Tintype Photograph. "Beast" Butler (the nickname awarded him by the citizens of New Orleans, he commanded the Union occupation) was one of the most photographed generals of the Civil War. A variety of images on tin may be found, but we have never before seen one remotely near this dramatic size. After the war, Butler ran for office almost continuously, culminating in his 1884 Greenback Party candidacy for the White House. Accordingly, this rare tintype will be of great interest to Civil War and political collectors alike. It is in superb condition, except that his name "Butler" has been neatly written on the surface at the very top. Surely a unique opportunity.

Shipping: Miscellaneous Collectibles, Smal (view shipping information)
