The ‘Cleopatra of the Secession,’ Boyd was a Confederate spy in the American Civil War (1844-1900). She operated from her father's hotel in Virginia and provided valuable information to Confederate General Stonewall Jackson in 1862. Ink signature, “Yours truly, Belle Boyd, The Rebel Spy,” on an off-white 3.75 x 2.25 card. Double matted and framed with a seated portrait of Boyd and a biographical plaque to an overall size of 22 x 17.25. Erased pencil notation to top right, some scattered light soiling, and an ink spot to top edge, otherwise fine condition. Just the second Boyd signature we have ever offered.
