Antique Belgian-made Copy of the Colt Model 1851 Navy Single Action Percussion Revolver, with holster, #1579, approx. .40 cal., 5-3/4'' octagonal barrel marked ''(crossed keys) First Quality American Pattern (crossed keys)'' on top flat, 6-shot round cylinder with roll-engraved scene of what appears to be a naval engagement and a crosshatch pattern with Belgian proofmarks; frame marked ''35 Calibre'' at left front at barrel juncture and on left rear triggerguard bolster, nickel-plated steel gripstraps, two-piece grips with bone panel at left side and hardwood panel on right. Condition is near very good retaining no original finish (traces of nickel on gripstraps) and an overall gunmetal gray color with occasional pitting (mainly to sides of frame, with a patch on cylinder); cylinder scene is perhaps 50% clear; other markings are distinct. All serial numbers match (wedge unnumbered). Grips are smooth having a chip out at left heel. Action is crisp, bore is shiny with distinct rifling. Dark leather holster shows age and some re-stitching, removed flap (but brass closure stud remains), and fits the gun perfectly. Est.: $400-$600. (Antique)
