Beginning of War of 1812. Three documen
Beginning of War of 1812. Three documents: 1) June 20, 1812, the day after the declaration of war was proclaimed. A.D.S. of Adj. Gen. Ebenezer Huntington to Gen. Matthias Nicoll, ordering that a Major be detached from the 4th Brigade. Reply from Nicoll on same page with name of Major, dated June 24. Second page continues with General Orders for Connecticut Militia, June 22, 1812, "in obedience to the act of Congress...placed under command of Maj. Gen. Solomon Cowly...," plus two general orders to Nicoll, by order of Brigade Maj. Shelton. Integral address-leaf to Col. Ephraim Wilcoxin. A much-traveled document early in the war. Small tear not touching text, else about fine. 2) Two manuscript orders, Dec. 1809, signed by Nicoll as Lt. Col., 1 p., regarding fines due, and then abated. About fine.
