Beautifully ornamented large pair of flintlock pistols, .65 cal., 12-1/2” barrels, 19-1/2” overall; chiseled lock plates with gold wash marked “Vergnes, Marseille”, engraved barrels including moon and stars motifs; double keyed barrels, wood stocks with extensive and delicately applied wire inlay and silver decoration. Both guns are in overall very good condition showing wear to the barrel engraving beneath a light brown patina, good actions and markings on locks, traces of gold wash on lock plates and one hammer (second gun’s hammer a replacement that is not engraved); military-type decorative motifs include crossed cannons on underside in front of trigger guards; axes also on underside toward the barrels; star, floral and geometric silver designs en suite throughout both pistols and finely inlaid silver wire from the muzzle to the butt of this full stocked pair; mismatched cleaning rods; an old repaired crack at the wrist of one of the pistols. A very fancy pair that show hallmarks on the lower tangs just behind the trigger guards. Est.: $3,000-$6,000.
