A most elegant sewing tool! As pictured in Gay Ann Rogers Needlework Tools. This is a turn of the century HEM MEASURE that Needle women found most useful for hemming since it could be moved easily as the hem was pinned and it would keep the hem depth, so it guided her work. These hem gages were cherished both for their use and for their beauty. According to Gay Ann Rogers "these are avidly sought by collectors today". This elegant example is an ART NOUVEAU style, silver plated. It is marked on the back by the maker-Pelouze Scale & manufacturing Co., Chicago. Pat Oct 2nd 1894 Pat.Pending. It measures 5 1/2 inches in length and is 1/2 inch wide. It's in excellent condition & the marker moves wonderfully. A beautiful item to use or just enjoy displaying it.
