Beautiful Custom Embellished Sharps Model 1874 Sporting Single Shot Rifle

According to a set of included letters from R.L. Moore Jr., owner of the Sharps Factory Records, this rifle was shipped on August 31, 1875 to a L. Beaumont of Titusville, Florida, as an octagon barrel sporting rifle in 44-70, with a 30 inch barrel, single trigger, peep and globe sights, oiled wood finish, and a special order pistol grip stock with a sporting buttplate. The letters do not cite price, (due to being a special order item sent by Cash on Delivery) any engraving or the weight, but one of the letters calls out "Company D" as an organization listed on Beaumont's invoice. Neither Beaumont or Company D have been positively identified. Dovetail blade front and folding ladder rear sights on the octagon barrel, with the one line address and "CALIBRE 44" on the top barrel flats, the 3-line Lawrence patent markings on the rear sight base, scroll engraving and gold bands at both muzzle and breech and an extra silver band at the muzzle. The engraving is nearly full coverage on the frame, lock plate, hammer and lever, with the breechblock and loading channel left smooth. Most of the engraving is of a scroll pattern, with the original markings left in their proper places, a scene of a mountain goat on the left and a plains buffalo on the right. The trigger and hammer spur are both sharply checkered. The forearm and buttstock are sharply checkered, with a Schnabel tip on the forearm, pistol grip wrist with a checkered grip butt, and a gilt brass sporting buttplate with scroll engraving on the heel and floral pattern screws.
