Bold vintage ballpoint signatures of the Beatles, "John Lennon, xxx, To Karen, with love," "Ringo Starr xxx," "George Harrison xxx," and "Paul McCartney xxx," on adjacent off-white and light blue 4.75 x 4 album pages, still contained in their original hardcover autograph album. Other signers in the album, some of which are on slips and cards affixed to the album's pages, include: Bill Wyman, Keith Richards, and Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones; Chuck Berry (ins); Carl Perkins; Chas Chandler, Alan Price, Eric Burdon, and Johnny Steel of the Animals; another set of Animals signatures from Hilton Valentine, Eric Burdon, Dave Rowberry, Chas Chandler, and John Steel; signatures of Graham, Allan, Eric, Bobby, and Tony of the Hollies (all signing first name only); all four members of Gerry and the Pacemakers; the Countrymen; the Dakotas; the Monotones and others. The Beatles' signatures are in fine condition; the remainder of the signatures are very good to fine, with old tape remnants and toning. Album also rates very good, with missing spine (repaired with tape), loose binding, and owner's address labels ("Miss Karen Elliott, 15 Anerley Road, Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex") affixed to inside front cover. Karen was an adept autograph hunter—in the back of the book, she wrote down the license plate numbers of the stars so that she could track them down. Among the names listed are John Lennon, Eric Burdon, and Hilton Valentine, with several items crossed out. To have such a great multitude of vintage British bands in a single autograph book is incredibly desirable, and the presence of Chuck Berry—one of the biggest early influences on the Beatles and Rolling Stones—makes it that much more special.
