Very rare vintage glossy 5.75 x 4 deckle edge promo photo showing the leather-clad Beatles with Pete Best on drums, with printed text on the reverse: "With Best Wishes from Paul, Pete, John, George, The Beatles, April 5th 1962." Signed and inscribed on the reverse in blue ink, "George Harrison, To Jurgen," "Paul McCartney," "John Lennon," and "Pete Best." In very good to fine condition, with some creasing (a vertical crease passes through Best's signature), and some light staining and soiling. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from the original owner, in part: "When I was thirteen or fourteen I was a big Beatles fan…My parents had some Taxis, where students and different people were driving this Taxis. One girl was around 10 or 11 years older than me…This time I was telling everybody about my love about the Beatles, specially about Paul. One day, Zenta…was coming, telling me she had a present for me from her friend Jurgen, who was at this concert in Hamburg. She was telling him about me and then he give it to her." On April 5, 1962, the Beatles played a concert at the Cavern Club specially arranged by the band's Liverpool fan club. The group performed two high-energy sets, dressing in old leather jackets and trousers for the first before changing into their modish Beno Dorn suits and ties before the second. Less than two weeks later, the Beatles served as the opening act at the launch of the Star-Club in Hamburg on April 13, 1962, and stayed on with the venue until the end of May. The next time the Beatles played the Star Club in early November, Ringo Starr had replaced Pete Best as the band’s full-time drummer, forever solidifying the classic Fab Four lineup.
