Vintage original 8 x 6 glossy photo of a packed crowd inside Liverpool's Cavern Club in 1957, the year the famous venue first opened. A small piece of tape affixed to upper right numbered "825," and reverse of photo bearing a copyright stamp. In fine condition. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks. Inspired by the Le Caveau de la Huchette jazz club in Paris, Alan Sytner opened The Cavern Club on January 16, 1957, repurposing the WW2 air raid shelter–turned–fruit warehouse into an underground jazz club. Although rock and roll was not tolerated early on, skiffle bands were accepted to play the club, and on August 7, 1957, John Lennon's group The Quarrymen made their debut. That same year, Ringo Starr played the venue on several occasions with acts like the Eddie Clayton Skiffle Group and Al Caldwell's Skiffle Group. By the time Sytner sold The Cavern Club to Ray McFall in 1959, blues bands and Beat groups began to play on a regular basis. The first Beat night was held on May 25, 1960, and featured a performance by Rory Storm and the Hurricanes with Starr on drums. By early 1961, Bob Wooler had become the full-time compere, and on February 9, 1961, the venue hosted its first Beatles concert.
