DS, one page, 5 x 7, December 2, 1963. Limousine chauffeur's receipt for the driver the Beatles used to get to a performance for the charitable Stars’ Organisation for Spastics, signed in black ballpoint, “Beatles, Paul McCartney,” “Ringo Starr,” “John Lennon,” and “George Harrison.” The receipt is for the ride from “(The Beatles), ATV Studio, Elstree,” to “Grosvenor House (Park Street Entrance).” Permanently affixed to a same-size card. In very good to fine condition, with light soiling and some skipping to ink. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from noted Beatles expert Frank Caiazzo and a letter of provenance from the limousine driver who originally obtained the signatures. The Beatles were at Elstree Studios to rehearse and shoot a TV appearance on The Morecambe and Wise Show. They performed three songs—‘This Boy,’ ‘All My Loving,’ and ‘I Want to Hold Your Hand’—and acted in a sketch with the comedy show’s stars. Then they took a limo to the Grosvernor House—signing this receipt for their driver upon arrival—and played an unusual cabaret floor show before an audience dressed in evening wear. They did not enjoy this style of concert and turned down similar engagements in the future. A fantastic piece of early Beatles history.
