Remarkably rare original invitation to an Ed Sullivan after-show party held in the Charlemagne Room at Miami’s Deauville Hotel on February 16, 1964, one page, 8.5 x 14, signed on the reverse in blue ballpoint, “Beatles, Ringo Starr,” “George Harrison,” “Paul McCartney (Beatles),” and “John Lennon,” with an unknown hand adding the inscription, “To Robert.” The typed invitation on Miami Beach Associated Hotels letterhead, reads: “Please excuse…the interruption during this very busy time of yours…I’ll take just a second to remind you that Mr. and Mrs. Morris Lansburgh are honoring Mr. Ed Sullivan and members of cast-and-staff of his show, at a Dinner Party tonight—Sunday February 16, in the Charlemagne Room, Deauville Hotel, at 9:30 p.m….and it’s extremely important to the success of the party that you be there…You will be, won’t you?” In very good to fine condition, with intersecting folds and overall creasing.

The invitation is accompanied by three modern photo prints of the Beatles at the party—one with McCartney posing with headliner Mitzi Gaynor—and a letter of provenance from the dedicatee, Robert Scott, the nephew of the original recipient: “My uncle, Bryan DaSilva, was a dancer on the Ed Sullivan Show at the Deauville Hotel, Miami on 16th February 1964. The Beatles were guests on the same show. The cast was sent this invitation to a dinner party which took place at 9:30 p.m. after the live broadcast of the show. Bryan attended the party along with the Beatles and asked the Beatles to autograph the back of the invitation for his 15 year old nephew, Robert.”

Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks, which states that these invitations would have been produced in extremely low quantities as they were only sent to the cast and staff that worked on the Ed Sullivan Show, which was filmed on the same day that the invitation was sent: “This is the only example of one of these invitations that we have ever seen.” The date of February 16, 1964, marks the second appearance by the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show, which was broadcast at 8 p.m. The show, which was filmed before an audience of 3,500, was actually not headlined by the Beatles, but rather by actress and singer Mitzi Gaynor. It was estimated that the Fab Four’s second Sullivan showcase was watched by 70 million people across America. An historic, hugely significant and rare piece of signed Beatles memorabilia deriving from an exclusive Ed Sullivan after-show soirée.
