Outstanding DS, signed “John Lennon,” “Paul McCartney,” “George Harrison,” and “R. Starkey,” two pages, 8.5 x 11, October 7, 1966. Document confirming the extension of an agreement between NEMS, Western World Management, and the Hearst Corporation’s King Features Syndicate Division which had been made the previous year. Nicely signed at the conclusion in blue ballpoint by all four band members. In fine condition, with expected handling wear and staple holes to upper left corner of each page.

This relates to the agreements made for the Beatles animated television series, produced by King Features Syndicate, which had debuted on September 25, 1965. Although John, Paul, George, and Ringo were the main characters in the cartoon they had nothing to do with the production beyond the authorized use of their music. Each episode was titled after a Beatles song and featured a story based on its lyrics. Interestingly, the Beatles themselves initially disliked the show but later on grew to enjoy the kitschy, silly nature of the program. It was an instant hit upon its premiere and ran for a total of 39 episodes over three seasons, finishing in May 1969. Fully signed Beatles legal documents are of the utmost desirability, with this uncommon example in wonderful condition and further enhanced by its interesting background.
