Extremely rare vintage circa 1962 German promo card for the Beatles at the Star Club in Hamburg, 5.75 x 4.25, signed on the reverse in blue ballpoint by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. In very good condition, with heavy overall creasing (less obvious on the signed side), paper loss to corners, an old tape stain to one corner, and another stain touching McCartney's signature. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks and a letter of provenance from a previous owner, in part: "The day Beatles 'Love Me Do' single was released in 1962 Benice Task was going to the record shop to purchase the single but found herself too ill to go so she asked her mother Betty Shiff to go for her. On her way to the shop she stopped in a fruit shop that was by her house in Hunts Cross, Liverpool England which George Harrison's mother worked in. Betty Shiff mentioned she was on her way to a record shop for a single of a band she never heard of. Following week Betty Shiff went to the fruit shop to purchase fruit and veg to find that George Harrison's mother handed her a 1962 Star Club promo card autographed by all four Beatles members." The Star Club in Hamburg opened on April 13, 1962, and had the Beatles booked for the first seven weeks. The band returned again in November and December, this time with Ringo Starr as the drummer, having replaced Pete Best in August. As this promo card depicts Ringo as part of the band, it must have been produced to advertise one of these later stints. 'Love Me Do'—the Beatles' debut single—was released on October 5, 1962, so these signatures likely date to some time during that month. A fantastic, early piece from before the emergence of Beatlemania.
