Ultra-desirable official white-matte RIAA gold record sales award “Presented to Capitol Records to commemorate the sale of more than one million copies of the Capitol Records pop single record ‘Penny Lane.'" Framed with its gold disc and plate to an overall size of 13.25 x 17.25; the award appears to be rebacked and bears a replica of the New York Frame & Picture label. In fine condition, with some foxing to the bottom of the mat.

Originally recorded for Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, the Beatles released a double A-side single with 'Penny Lane' and 'Strawberry Fields Forever' in February 1967 to satisfy their record company's demand for a new release. 'Penny Lane' became the band's thirteenth single to reach number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and was certified gold on March 20, 1967. In 2021, Rolling Stone ranked the track at number 280 on its list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
