Maclen (Music) Ltd. business check, 8 x 3.5, filled out in another hand and signed by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, both as Directors, payable to Arthur Young McClelland Moors & Co. for £1836.0.0, March 24, 1976. A vertical crease and staple holes to left side, expected stamps, a vertical ink line passing through a single letter of each signature, and some light wrinkling, otherwise fine condition.

In 1976, the world’s most famous songwriting duo had long since gone their separate ways in a post-Beatles world. The two reunited, at least on this document, as directors of Maclen Music, the publishing company named for McCartney and Lennon—but rumors of a real-life reunion were swirling as well. In fact, the Beatles were in talks for a 1976 reunion with a phenomenal offer—rumored to be $50,000,000—on the table by New York promoter Sid Bernstein. Though each of the Fab Four were said to have seriously considered the offer, none were in agreement at the same time and the proposal slowly died. A remarkably significant Lennon and McCartney document dating from a time when Beatlemaniacs still hoped for a return to the stage by those Liverpool lads.
