Extremely rare copyright certificate for the Beatles song 'Ask Me Why,' one page both sides, 8 x 10.5, stamp-dated February 7, 1963. Pages 3 and 4 of a registration of a claim to copyright, Form E Foreign, Class E, Registration No. Eu 757709, listing Dick James Music Ltd., C/O Concertone Songs, Inc., as the copyright claimant, and John Lennon and Paul McCartney as the authors of "Words & Music," both listing their citizenship and address as "England." Upper right bears a validated Librarian of Congress Copyright Office impression seal, and the lower left of reverse features matching form and fee received dates of February 7, 1963. In fine condition. Although both Lennon and McCartney received writing credits for ‘Ask Me Why,’ McCartney later conceded that the song ‘was mostly John’s.’ ‘Ask Me Why’ was one of the tracks performed at their first Parlophone recording session in EMI's Abbey Road studio two on June 6, 1962, and was memorably selected for the B-side of the Beatles’ hit single ‘Please Please Me.’ Copyright claims related to the Fab Four are incredibly rare, with those related to such early songs all the more desirable.
