Beanstalk Design Artwork
In a departure for his usual strange creature slasher films, the colorful producer Charles Band created a more “family” tale in his update of the classic Jack and the Beanstalk called “Beanstalk” (1994). As usual, he put an enormous amount of production on the screen for his legendary tiny budgets. This is mostly due to the “miracle worker”, his production designer, Milo, who is able to create amazing sets, effects and visuals virtually out of thin air. His artwork and storyboards have become extremely collectable, for their amazing detail, and artistry. They are works of art that can be framed and displayed. Here are four original pencil drawings showing the progression of the beanstalk growing to the heavens, and two color renditions of Jack’s (JD Daniels, “Mighty Ducks” 1992) modern suburban home, with the beanstalk growing out of it. There are also hand written notes on these drawings. (Pencil drawings are 14x17, and color are 11x17. They are folded in the middle, and some have corner “pin” marks where they were put up on a storyboard)
